We Built This City 24 Hours Straight

At the time of upload my friend Russ Heller is currently sealed in a plexiglass booth in Best Buy on Broadway in New York. He is set to endure Starships' 80's Classic "We Built This City" for 24 hours straight which Blender Magazine voted the Worst Song Ever. More info and a live blog from the booth is here: www.blender.com
Ready Or Not - The Fugees (1996)

"Ready Or Not" is the second single from The Fugees' 1996 album "The Score". The song contains a sample of "Boadicea" by Enya, and its chorus is based on "Ready Or Not (Here I Come)" by The Delfonics. Enya was prepared to sue the group for copyright infringement, because she had not permitted the group to sample the song "Boadicea", from her 1992 album "The Celts", but she eventually settled out of court. The Fugees were a critically acclaimed New York hip-hop group that rose to fame in the mid-1990s, whose repertoire included elements of soul and Caribbean music, particularly reggae. The members of the group are rapper/singer/producer Wyclef Jean, rapper/singer Lauryn Hill, and rapper Pras Michel. Deriving their name from the term 'refugee', the group recorded two albums before disbanding in 1997. The second of these, "The Score", was a multi-platinum and multi-Grammy-winning success. US President Barack Obama named "Ready Or Not" as his favorite song in a top-10 list submitted to Blender magazine in August 2008. This channel is dedicated to all the great rap music from back in the day. The music that started the whole hip-hop revolution, the incredible music from the 70s, the 80s, & the early 90s . . . Starship ~ We Built This City (1985)

Yes its horribly cheesy and horribly 80s, but i still love it =) "We Built This City" is a song written by Bernie Taupin, Martin Page, Dennis Lambert, and Peter Wolf, and originally recorded by the group Starship and released as its debut single on November 10, 1985. The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, best known for his longtime collaboration with Elton John. The song features Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick on lead vocals, and the single version reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 on November 16, 1985, and also number one on the US Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number twelve in the United Kingdom. The song was engineered by Grammy-winning producer Bill Bottrell and arranged by Bottrell and Jasun Martz. According to Slick, the song was written about early-1970s Los Angeles. The radio station in a late interlude references "The City By the Bay", "The City That Rocks" and "The City That Never Sleeps", meaning San Francisco, Cleveland and New York City, respectively. MTV executive and former DJ Les Garland provided the DJ voice-over during the song's bridge.[2] The song was also released without the traffic report and DJ interaction during the song's bridge (the B-side of the promotional 45-rpm record). Local stations were encouraged to make local versions. New York City, for example, included a traffic report describing conditions on the George Washington Bridge. Blender Burner: Nirvana/Guns N Roses clash at the 1992 VMAs

So you live in Seattle, you used to play bass in a world-changing rock band, but these days youve got some time on your hands. What to do? Well, if youre Krist Novoselic of Nirvana or Duff McKagan formerly of Guns N Roses, currently of Velvet Revolver, the answer is clear: You blog for the Seattle Weekly. This week, Novoselic celebrated his first year of blogging by recapping the epic tale of the Nirvana/Guns N Roses clash at the 1992 Video Music Awards. You may remember the story: Axl Rose gets teased by Courtney Love backstage, and in response Axl steps to Courtneys husband, Kurt Cobain, to tell him to keep his lady in line. Words are exchanged! Axl challenges Kurt to get in the ring! And like every other similar challenge, it never happens. Heres what does: Nirvana go onstage and play Lithium, and the whole thing explodes into anarchy. Stage divers? Check! Novoselic tossing his bass 20 feet into air, failing to catch it and getting conked on the head? Check! Cobain and drummer Dave Grohl attacking their instruments? Check! Its an awesome example of what never happens on MTV anymore—but happens at MIA shows all the time. In his blog post, Novoselic talks about meeting McKagan backstage in 92, long before they were friends and blog-leagues (I think Duff was also under the influence. He must have heard something from Rose and had a terse word for me) and reveals which 70s rock god was in the green room waiting with some chilled medicine for his injury. See more Maxim ...

Blender Burner: Mandy Moore Marriage Shocker

When celebrities say they are looking for privacy they usually mean they are looking for more publicity of something that should be private, like the birth of a child or a wedding. So when we heard that actress/singer-songwriter Mandy Moore and alt-country demigod Ryan Adams had gotten hitched in a private ceremony in Savannah, Georgia, we were like, yeah, sure, riiiiight. There were probably 400000 photogs who just happened to have the address and time emailed to their blackberries right before the ceremony started. We are now officially ashamed of such cynical thinking. (Her next album, Amanda Lee, doesnt even come out until May. There is officially no PR value to this happening at this time at all. Its real life!) Turns out the couple, who recently got back together and then got engaged shortly thereafter, actually did want to be alone on one of the most important days of their lives. They got married in a small church, accompanied only by a pastor theyd just met, and they didnt even change out of their usual outfits; Moore wore a simple white dress and sandals, Adams wore skinny jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt with a tie.
