When released as a single in 1960, the song performed very well, reaching #2 in the United States pop and R&B charts, and #9 in the United Kingdom. This was Cooke's second-biggest American hit, his first single for RCA Victor after leaving Keen Records earlier in 1959, and was also his first top 10 hit since "You Send Me" from 1957, and his second-biggest Pop single. The song was inspired after a chance meeting with an actual chain-gang of prisoners on a highway, seen while Sam was on tour. According to legend, Cooke and his brother Charles felt sorry for the men and gave them several cartons of cigarettes. Cooke was reportedly unsatisfied with the initial recording sessions of this song at RCA Studios in New York in January of 1960, and came back three months later to redo some of the vocals to get the effect he wanted.

But hey, I wanted to see, as a video-maker, if I could pull of a theme like this, and with music that I was not able to follow lyrics to (If you know Spanish, I apologize, but the lyrics won't match the clips ^^;). This is my second princess tutu AMV and probably the last for a while now, cuz I foresee that I shall be busy from now on. However I really wanted to make this once since I have recently seen The Swan Lake at the Opera House and the idea was simply to irresistible. The story is basically similar to the one in Swan Lake. ~ Ahiru dances alone on the shores of the river, surrounded by the mystery of the night. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Drosselmeyer appears and turns the unfortunate girl into a duck. A couple of days later, Fakir can be seen dancing near the river. He stops his dance just in time to witness Ahirus transformation back to a girl, which takes place every day after sunset. Mesmerized by her beauty, he dances a pas de deux with her promising to free her from the evil curse. Their encounter ends because the first rays of the sun make themselves seen and Ahiru turns back into a duck. Drosselmeyer, however had witnessed the whole story and reminds Ahiru that she is merely a puppet under his spell. Although saddened the girl cannot stop thinking about Fakir, so Drosselmeyer decides to take pity on the two ( OMG HE HAS A HEART? *faints* ) and tells the girl that if Fakirs love for her will remain the same after the boy sees Rue dancing, he will lift the curse and Ahiru will be free. Fakir return as he had previously promised; he fights Drosselmeyers evil minions and arrives by the lake just as Ahiru and Rue start their dance, both trying to win his heart, one with a <b>...</b>

Sohrab Fakir is a Sufi singer.[1] His full name is Sohrab Fakir Khaskhely. He was born in 1934 in Khairpur Mir's. His father, Hamal Fakir, was the disciple of Kush Khair Muhammad Fakir. Sohrab Fakir is recognized as the greatest living Sindhi folk singer[2] in his style of music, playing the yaktaro (single stringed instrument) and chappar (wooden clappers). Sadly, a paralytic stroke recently left Saaiin Sohrab voiceless. He is spending his days at a Sufi shrine in Sindh. Aptly perhaps, the Fakir's rendering of a folk prayer asking for the intercession of the grace of Shah Latif is also included in this collection.
