Folker Hellmeyer and James Turk talk about Europe, inflation and gold
Subscribe to our newsletter at www.goldmoney.com In this video Folker Hellmeyer, chief analyst at Bremer Landesbank, and James Turk of the GoldMoney Foundation, talk about the problems facing the eurozone and the coming pick up in inflation. Hellmeyer doesn't see a recession coming in Europe. However he believes that inflation will pick up and go back to the levels of the 1980s. In his opinion, the disinflationary period following the 1980s is widely misunderstood and was caused by the opening of communist countries which lead to overcapacities in global labour markets. Those resources have now been exploited and can't buffer inflationary pressures any longer. They agree, that the government inflation statistics have been modified to show lower numbers -- as claimed by John Williams of shadowstats.com -- leading to a growing inflation-burden on the middle classs. Hellmeyer points out that the ECB is trying to monetise as little as possible, contrary to what the Bank of England and the Federal Reserve are doing. He also believes that European countries are in a much better shape than reported. He agues that there is aggressive speculation against the eurozone that disregards the reforms that have been undertaken, while other countries are simply monetising without any fiscal reforms. He points out that regarding debt to GDP ratios, budget deficits and reforms Europe is in a much better shape than for instance the US, the UK or Japan. I think the story that the scenes tell goes well with the overall feel and message of the song. There was an extremely rich collection of material to work with, but I really think we've selected some good footage for this one. The song is one of my favorites from the "Monsters In Rome" album, I've had great pleasure recording a song based mostly on a an acoustic piano. I have also added some acoustic guitar, string section, drums and acoustic bass, but that feeling of acoustic piano + singing basically makes the song what it is. I especially like the vintage feel this film ads to the slightly out-of-tune piano sound. Hope you like it! Jessica Folker - Miracles [HQ Audio]
Folcker was born as Jessica Elisabeth Angelique Folcker in Täby, a Stockholm suburb, on July 9, 1975. Her mother is Swedish and her father is from Senegal. Jessica attended a music school for six years until she was 17. Her big dream of becoming a singer, was fulfilled when she was engaged as a backing singer for the Ace of Base and Dr. Alban. She also performed the chorus in Leila K's hit "Electric" and did background vocals for E-Type. In 1994 Jessica was selected to represent Stockholm in the Miss Sweden competition. On Jessica's debut album, named simply Jessica and released in the autumn 1998, she worked with composer and producer Max Martin, known for having written Britney Spears' Baby One More Time. The album was an instant hit, and Jessica became an international star overnight. As a result, Jessica travelled to Asia for a six week long promotional tour across Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand, resulting in high sales in the region, including selling gold. In South Korea, her remake of David Foster classic Goodbye was used as the theme ballad for the movie A Promise, and rapidly became the most frequently played song on South Korean radio. Hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I had so much fun writing it. I was kind of cracking up while I was playing it. I figure it's not any worse than anything out there, and sometimes, you just gotta go with what you create. I thought I was being pretty original with the title, but there is a group called "Bad Mother Folkers." But since there were no songs with that topic or title, and titles aren't copyrighted, I went with it. It's based on a true experience on Youtube, although I embellished the story a bit to make it more interesting for the song. I had posted a video response to one of Eminem's songs, and a commenter told me to get off the Eminem channel. Oddly enough, I got a big kick out of that, and I had to write a song about it. I think Eminem's a great creative force from what little I've heard of him. So this song is about what I think his response would be as well. I may not agree with all his views that I've heard in the media, but I respect anyone's craft. Free download: music.indiefolker.com We've recorded the drum tracks for "Why?" in Gabor's apartment in about 3 or 4 hours on a laptop and some outboard recording device. We've used only three microphones to make this. (No microphones were harmed in the making of this song.) We've played the song a few times live in 2011 and it shortly became on of my favorites from all the new songs from that time. It felt great to work in a team again. I sometimes forget what that feels like. And that I enjoy it! I also enjoyed playing producer on a song that has input from other musicians -- not just myself. After recording the drums, there was a lot of cutting and re-arranging. We have tracked the bass about one month later, and I think they turned out GREAT! I love a good grove, and this song has it. The rest of the recording and mixing was done at my place, as usual. I rarely have a problem finishing a mix, but this song took a really long time because of all the demo mixes and arrangements that were made. Trying to decide which one is "best" is absolute nonsense in these cases, and I always forget that.
