Here is the first test of my new DRIFT HD 170. Mainly bought in complement of a GoPro HD for its mic input, I enjoy having it to record video and audio simultaneously. During this short flight between St-Cyr (LFPZ, on of my home base) and Toussus (LFPN), we encountered some birds (check at 00:46) with one which almost transformed this flight in an nightmare. Not so far from a bird strike. Obviously we are with our plane in "their" world.

Testing the HEAVY LIFT quad. Strapped my Drift Innovation HD170 to the top of the Lipo stack to do a little "data-logging". Total payload - 36oz water bottle, 17oz lipo, 7oz landing gear, 4.5oz camera = 4.05lbs Lost hover-power at the end and made a very hard "low-power" landing including a nice bounce and flip. No damage. Large landing gear, and HD170 don't give a crap about hard landings.

This is my review of the new underwater case for the Drift HD170 Stealth (and non Stealth) sold at www.myPOV360.com. I'm not using it for underwater purposes (it's rated up to 10ft) but rather the lens cover to use a ND2/4/8 filter to reduce prop artifacts. In my opinion it works rather well and should be a great setup mounted inside the cabin of an airplane to shoot through the windscreen. I lost my Drift HD170 twice while practising infinity on my RR Matrix 16 paraglider. The Drift HD170 is quite a rugged device because it survived 2 falls from 500 meter into a field where it stayed with the back popped open for 3 weeks. During those 3 weeks a very big storm with torrential rain for days passed over Whakatane, completely flooding the area. After the storm had passed and the sun had dried out the field it was mowed & bailed. After 3 weeks my mate found it back because he felt he drove over something on the quad bike while retrieving the lines for the next tow! He gave me the cam, I popped back the battery, closed the lid and turned it on, expecting nothing much... but... the LCD came on, I tried record; EVERYTHING WORKED! Used it that day again for recording! A couple of weeks later I lost it again, but luckily found it back in the field after the flight. This time the SD card was gone, but we found it about a meter away from the cam. Since the video was not closed properly it was missing the Quicktime headers. I needed to use a repair program to restore the video; the result can be seen in this little video on Vimeo!
