RIP Lorry Legend Eddie Stobart
Mr Stobart, who built up the well-known lorry empire and ran it for more than 30 years, suffered what were described as "heart problems" yesterday and died this morning in hospital in Coventry, West Mids. He took the Eddie Stobart business — started by his dad Eddie — and built it into the best known haulage company in the country. Mr Stobart sold the firm to his brother William and business partner Andrew Tinkler in 2004 A statement on the Eddie Stobart company website today read: "It is with great sadness and regret that Stobart Group shares the news that Edward Stobart, 56, son of Eddie Stobart, passed away at 8.10am this morning at University Hospital Coventry, after heart problems yesterday. "Although not involved with today's Stobart Group business, Edward was managing director of Eddie Stobart Ltd for over 30 years - a business started by his father Eddie. Brynglas Tunnel - Lorry Fire Incident (M4, Nr Newport, Wales)
The day that I was commuting to work only to come across a lorry on fire within the tunnel - everyone just drove by and initially I stopped 50 yards behind the lorry to prevent other cars from proceeding into the tunnel - however I then spotted the driver still near the cabin of the lorry - I accelerated towards him, flung open the passenger door and beckoned the driver into my car so as to get him out. Fortunately, he jumped in and off we went at speed out of the tunnel just as a tire exploded. Shortly after, the entire lorry starting erupting, including what we believe to be the fuel tank blowing up. Hell of a day...! Luckily the access to the site was just large enough for the 44 tonne articulated lorry, however heavy rain after the first two deliveries caused a two week delay as the road was too soft for the lorry. Even after the road had dried out, the first load (which unfortunately was not filmed) very nearly got stuck! This project will be featured on the Dutch TV progam "Ik Vertrek" in the Spring 2012. This is a 1971 Atkinson 'Silver Knight' timber crane. It spent most of it's working life as a tractor unit pulling trailers loaded with bricks and pre cast concrete buildings for it's original owner based at Aylesbury Buckinghamshire UK It has covered a considerable mileage with no reported breakdowns.The design dates back to the 1930's with a cab frame constructed of angled steel and timber. Early cabs were faced with 'tin' sheet but this was changed in the 1960's to the new fangled fibreglass. No air sprung seat in this cab and a young lorry driver of today may complain of the lack of power steering and pain in his left leg due to the lack of an air assisted clutch. No sleeper cab either for our pampered driver. His 'bed' consisted of a home constructed board placed on the central engine cover and supported by the seats. Oh and did I tell you that a cab heater was an optional extra in 1970..? Saying this the Atkinson was considered to be the 'SCANIA' of it's day with it's wrap round windscreen and relative comfort compared very favourably with vehicles from the previous decade. It is surprisingly a pleasure to drive and the old vinyl seat is very comfortable. The engine has a powerful roar that was music to the ears of a 'traditional' lorry driver of it's day. The gearbox is a David Brown six speed constant mesh ie no synchromesh, requiring the driver to match road speed to engine /gearbox speed to enable smooth changes. This driving procedure is known as double <b>...</b>

However this is different, they nearly hit me last time and I got a mouthful of abuse. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera running. This time however I politely told them they're going the wrong way down a one way street, only to be asked "have i got a problem." Well yes, yes I do. I've got a problem with you breaking the law I've got a problem with you endangering the public I've got a problem with you causing traffic problems I've got a problem with you being rude It seems to me it's *not* the binmens fault, the council have placed the bin in such a way that they can only empty it by going the wrong way down a one way street! Who plans these things? It's absurd. This however doesn't give them the right to be rude, especially not when they're in the wrong. The rudeness fuelled the desire for me to make this complaint -- well done. So based on the abuse I received last time, and now catching it on camera I'll be forwarding this video to the local council and the local police. I'd like them to answer this question: Are bin lorries above the highway code? Are they exempt from the law? Two crazy women get hit by a lorry and a car on the motorway
Not a new video, but still shocks me everytime I see it. Two Swedish women run across the motorway in the UK. The first woman gets hit by a lorry and the second woman gets hit by a car. One of the women then tries to fight the police before being restrained by 6 people. Shocking footage and gripping viewing. Credit to the BBC and the Motorway Cops.
