Southwest Airlines Flight 812

Southwest Flight 812 drops from 36000ft to 10700ft in 4 minutes....... This is my story of Southwest Airlines flight 812 that landed in Yuma AZ after a hole blew open at 36000ft. There were 118 passengers and 5 crew members on board. On April 1, 2011 the plane left Phoenix AZ in route to Sacramento CA at approximately 3:35 PM and landed in Yuma at 4:07 PM This is Strictly a reenactment of the events of that day. Thankfully there was only 1 minor injury to a crew member on the rapid decent. I give credit to the great pilots of Southwest Airlines and there piloting skills. Great job bringing everyone down safe.. Thanks for watching..

Southwest Airlines Engine Washing

Southwest Airlines Co. has signed a multiyear agreement to use an environmentally friendly engine-washing system in an effort to save on fuel and cut carbon emissions. The Dallas-based carrier is using the EcoPower system offered by East Hartford, Conn.-based flight technology firm Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Pratt & Whitney said Southwest's annual fuel-cost savings could exceed $20 million. The airline also stands to cut 135 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually as a result. The arrangement with Pratt & Whitney comes as Southwest, along with the rest of the airline industry, faces record-high fuel prices that have led many to trim capacity and levy fees on travelers. Southwest in the first quarter reported a 63 percent drop in profit to $34 million, partially driven by a 34 percent hike in fuel and oil costs compared with the same period of 2007. Southwest said it is performing regular washes at airports in Orlando, Fla., and Oakland, Calif., where Pratt & Whitney has established new service centers. The EcoPower equipment uses a closed-loop system with atomized water to wash aircraft engines, avoiding contaminant runoff, Pratt & Whitney said. The patented system is considered more effective and faster than traditional engine-washing processes. Pratt & Whitney parent United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) employs more than 225000 worldwide and in 2007 recorded $4.22 billion in profit on $54.8 billion in ...

Southwest Airlines Flight 821 Is Requested By ATC To Check On Unresponsive Cirrus Aircraft ATC Audio

AviationExplorer.com - NTSB investigating incident involving ATC request for a commercial plane to fly near non-responsive airplane. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating an incident involving a Southwest Airlines airplane that was requested to veer off course by Air Traffic Control to view into the cockpit of a general aviation airplane that had been out of radio communication. On Sunday, March 27, 2011, Southwest Airlines flight 821 -- a Boeing 737 -- was requested by Central Florida Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) to check on a Cirrus SR22 that had been out of radio contact for an hour. The TRACON vectored the Southwest Airlines commercial flight until visual contact was obtained with the Cirrus. The Southwest pilots reported seeing two people in the cockpit. The Southwest flight turned away and the air traffic controller then vectored the aircraft for its arrival at Orlando International Airport. Approximately thirty seconds later the Cirrus contacted Jacksonville Center who gave them the current frequency. Both aircraft landed safely at their destinations. In a statement, the FAA reported that preliminary information indicated that there was a loss of required separation between the two aircraft. The FAA has suspended the air traffic controller, who is a supervisor. "By placing this passenger aircraft in close proximity to another plane, the air traffic controller compromised the safety of everyone involved. This incident was totally ...

Obese Woman Sues Southwest Airlines

The woman at the centre of a 'too fat to fly' controversy has announced that she is suing Southwest Airlines, which refused to allow her on a flight because of her size. New Orleans resident Kenlie Tiggeman is taking on the airlines controversial 'Customers of Size' policy which requires passengers to buy a second seat if they can't fit between the 17-inch wide armrests. In her quest to seek an injunction against the Dallas-headquartered carrier, Ms Tiggeman alleges that Southwest ignored her 'constitutional rights' and demonstrates 'discriminatory actions towards obese customers'. While she is not seeking monetary damages from the airline, Ms Tiggeman has claimed that she wants to enact an industry wide standard for rules to be put in place clearly stating the official policy of all US air companies. 'We need to know what the rules are,' she said. 'We need to know if we need one seat or two, because this eyeballing happening at the gate is incredibly discriminatory, and it's so unnecessary.' Ms Tiggeman rose to national prominence last year when a Southwest Airlines employee declared that she was 'too fat to fly,' and asked her to buy a second seat.

Southwest Airlines Unveils Illinois One

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES UNVEILS ILLINOIS ONE Airline Honors the State of Illinois and City of Chicago with Specialty Aircraft CHICAGO -- April 14, 2008- Southwest Airlines today honored the State of Illinois with the unveiling of Illinois One, a Boeing 737 emblazoned with an artist's rendering of the state flag. Southwest Airlines' top leadership celebrated the high-flying tribute to the State of Illinois at an event in a Chicago Midway hangar with Mayor Richard M. Daley and local Employees. "We are thrilled to honor Illinois with this beautiful aircraft; it is truly a testament to the great relationship we have developed with our Chicago Midway Customers and a tribute to our local hard-working Employees," said Southwest Airlines Chairman Herb Kelleher. "Our pride for Illinois will now fly high over the 64 cities Southwest serves." Since beginning service in Illinois at Chicago Midway in 1985, Southwest Airlines has grown from eight to 227 daily nonstop departures. As Southwest Airlines has increased its flights, it also has increased its need for space. In 2004, with the help of Mayor Daley's outstanding Leadership, Southwest Airlines participated in the Terminal Development Project at Chicago Midway. The expansion has allowed Southwest Airlines to meet and exceed a promise of growth and has created an ideal environment for offering the Legendary Southwest-brand of Customer Service for Chicago travelers. Southwest Airlines' Colleen Barrett on 'Servant Leadership'

Most of the US airline industry is under assault from skyrocketing fuel prices and a sluggish economy, but the message that Southwest Airlines president Colleen Barrett brought to the recent Wharton Leadership Conference was about the importance of treating employees and customers well. Innovative leaders such as Southwest chairman Herb Kelleher and smart management of non-human resources -- especially Southwest's fuel purchasing hedges that have saved the company more than $2 billion -- have certainly helped the airline post profits for 35 consecutive years. But the foundation for all that, she said, has been making the satisfaction of employees and customers the highest priority.

Southwest Airlines Celebrates AirTran Merger at Hartsfield-Jackson

To mark the finalization of its acquisition of AirTran Airways, Southwest Airlines executives arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson to celebrate with AirTran employees May 2. A water-cannon salute, confetti and more than 800 guests greeted the chartered AirTran 737 emblazoned with a special logo marking the occasion. Southwest CEO Gary Kelly and AirTran CEO Bob Fornaro were among passengers aboard the aircraft as it was towed into the AirTran hangar at Hartsfield-Jackson amid cheers and fanfare. "Today is monumental for Southwest Airlines and it is for AirTran too," said Kelly. "We're celebrating our people and all the hard work it's taken to get to this point. And, we're going to celebrate in style!" According to officials, the process of converting AirTran's fleet to the Southwest livery should start next year.

Southwest Airlines Relationships

Our founder, Herb Kelleher, is famous for saying...well...he's famous for saying a lot of things. But among them that "the Business of Business is People." He recognized that - more than advertising, more than low fares - it would be our Employees that would be the key to our success, because they would be key to building positive relationships with our Customers. At Southwest Airlines, we truly value the relationships we build with our Customers and see every encounter as an opportunity to connect. And, because our Employees are guided by "The Golden Rule," they instinctively know what to do to take care of our Customers in times of need. Sometimes it is a simple as getting someone's bag to a flight on time, and sometimes it can be much deeper than that. Watch this video to see a very touching example of a Southwest Employee taking care of a Customer in need.

Southwest Airlines - "Celebration"

Southwest Airlines is a huge fan of using their employees in their own commercials. Over the years, they've acted as cops, jurors and now...football referees. SWA employees are out to enforce the correct way to treat passengers. We're throwing penalty flags on other airlines, because we don't believe in charging unreasonable bag fees or change fees. We only believe in fare play. The new campaign has a tongue-in-cheek tone with the voiceover delivered by the famous sportscaster, Keith Jackson. With the campaign running around the NFL programming, there's no doubt it's going to be one unforgettable season.

Southwest Airlines Flight 812 Update - NTSB

airboyd.tv Courtesy NTSB The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) provided an update regarding the continuing investigation into the mid-air rupture of the fuselage skin on Southwest Airlines flight 812 that occurred on Friday, April 1st. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Yuma, Arizona. Today, mechanics from Southwest Airlines, under the supervision of NTSB investigators, removed a section of the ruptured fuselage skin from Friday's accident. The segment will be transported to NTSB headquarters in Washington, DC for in-depth analysis. In addition, NTSB investigators conducted additional inspections of other portions of the lap joint along the fuselage of the accident airplane and found evidence of additional cracks. The past few days, Southwest Airlines has been conducting additional non destructive testing inspections on several of their 737 airplanes. We have been informed that additional crack indications in the lap joints have been identified on 3 airplanes they have inspected. The NTSB, along with the other investigative parties - FAA, Boeing, and Southwest Airlines - has been working to determine what actions might be necessary to inspect any similar airplanes. As a result of the findings from our investigation to date and the results of the Southwest Airlines inspections, Boeing has indicated that they will be drafting a Service Bulletin to describe the inspection techniques that they would recommend be accomplished on similar airplanes. Southwest Airlines Response to Unruly Passenger Behavior

Southwest Airlines would like to set the record straight regarding a situation involving two female Customers, Ms. Sarah Williams and Ms. Nisreen Swedberg, on Flight #3600 from Tampa Bay to Los Angeles on February 14, 2008. During this flight, the Flight Crew and several witnesses confirm that Ms. Williams and Ms. Swedberg's unruly behavior was touched off by an occupied lavatory. After banging on the door, Ms. Williams and Ms. Swedberg became verbally abusive and threatening toward the Customer who had been using the lavatory. When Our Flight Crew addressed the situation with Ms. Williams and Ms. Swedberg, the two Customers continued their threatening behavior and abusive language. At this time, the Flight Crew requested that local police meet the flight upon its arrival in Los Angeles. The police questioned several witnesses, as well as Ms. Williams and Ms. Swedberg, who were later released. Contrary to reports, we did not ban these Customers from flying Southwest Airlines. Our Employees must maintain a Safe and comfortable environment onboard the aircraft at all times. According to some news reports, this story has nothing to do with Ms. Swedberg and Ms. Williams' appearance, but rather their use of what other Passengers tell us was profanity and threatening behavior onboard one of our flights. Finally, we would have gone out of business a long time ago if we discriminated against beautiful women -- or anyone else for that matter. We carry almost 100 million Customers ...

Southwest Airlines Welcomes Your Pets Onboard

Pets will now have the "Freedom to Fly" on Southwest Airlines. Southwest will soon allow Customers to bring along small cats and dogs in the aircraft cabin for a special low "pet fare" of $75 each way. All pets must be in a carrier that fits under the airplane seat, and the carrier will count as the Customer's carryon bag. Customers can begin purchasing tickets for their small cats and dogs on June 1, 2009, for travel beginning June 17, 2009. For more information and a video on Southwest's new pet fare, visit www.blogsouthwest.com. "We know from Customer and Employee feedback that our new 'pet' Customers will be a welcomed addition to any flight," said Southwest Airlines Chairman, President, and CEO Gary Kelly. "Our enhanced boarding process has opened the window, allowing us to accommodate small pets comfortably on a Southwest flight - without impacting our efficiency." The new pet policy is one of several programs and processes that Southwest Airlines is implementing in an effort to enhance the service the Carrier provides, and at the same time, create opportunities for incremental revenue growth. Read more on these programs and processes in a blog post by Kelly at www.blogsouthwest.com.

Southwest Airlines Presents the Green Plane

Southwest is proud to introduce our Green Plane today. No, the paint isnt green, (though there is a decal) and you probably cant tell much difference on the interior, but our Green Plane is a test lab of eco-friendly products that we are evaluating. What makes this so innovative is that we hope to be able to reduce the weight of the aircraft by up to five pounds per seat, saving fuel and reducing emissions while being good environmental stewards. Yes, environmental decisions can also make good business sense! And, we are the first airline to do something like this.

Southwest Airlines Orders 208 Boeing 737 Aircraft Including 150 737 MAX - Boeings Biggest Order

AviationExplorer.com - The Largest Boeing order ever Southwest airlines orders 208 737s, including 150 MAX jets. The firm order is Boeing's largest ever both in dollar value and in the number of airplanes. The list price of all 208 jets is just under $19 billion. After standard discounts, the real value is estimated at about $10.5 billion. Southwest Airlines has placed the largest firm order in Boeing history to become the launch customer for the 737 MAX. The Dallas-based carrier ordered 150 of the proposed new version of Boeing's workhorse single-aisle jet featuring a new fuel-efficient engine. The airline also ordered 58 model 737s. Southwest is the first customer to finalize an order for the 737 MAX. It will take the first delivery of the new aircraft in 2017. The firm order is Boeing's largest ever both in dollar value and in the number of airplanes. The total value of all 208 jets in the order is just under $19 billion at list prices. Last week, Boeing committed to build the 737 MAX in Renton following ratification of a deal with its Machinists union. Solid backing from Boeing's biggest 737 customer is a huge boost for the airplane program, which is lagging the rival Airbus A320 neo in orders. Southwest has been Boeing's most important 737 customer. Southwest is a special Boeing customer and has been a true partner in the evolution of the 737.
