Audi first unveiled the R8 V10 Spyder at the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show in September 2009. It runs the same 5.2-litre V10 engine found in the coupe. Maximum power is 386kW (518 PS) and peak torque is 530Nm (391 lb-ft). The 0 - 62mph sprint time is 4.1 seconds while the manual can deliver a top speed of 194mph.

This past Thursday, the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid made its driving debut on a closed road in Monterey California, just days prior to its appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. After being shipped over from Germany by plane, engineers handed the keys of the new 918 Spyder Hybrid to Porsche AG Design Chief Michael Mauer. The car drove under its own power which comes from the mid mounted 3.4 liter V8 out of the RS Spyder as well as in all electric mode which powers just the front wheels. The 918 Spyder prototype combines high-tech racing features and electro-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities: An emission level of just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre on fuel consumption of three litres/100 kilometres (equal to 94 mpg imp) truly outstanding even for an ultra-compact city car, on the one hand, combined with the performance of a super sports car and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph) plus, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT, on the other.

The Audi e-tron Spyder features what is without a doubt the most advanced and simultaneously the most consistent evolution of the current Audi design language, while also providing initial hints at the design language of future Audi sports cars. It reinterprets the most important design elements that already characterized the previous e-tron concept vehicles. This also ensures the necessary formal differentiation to the purely electric-powered Audi e-tron shown at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show. The two-seater is equipped with a 300-hp twin-turbo V6 TDI at the rear axle and two electric motors producing a total of 64 kW at the front axle. The Audi e-tron Spyder's low total weight of 3196 lbs combined with the high-torque TDI and the two electric motors results in respectable performance. The car accelerates to 60 in less than 4.5 seconds, and top speed is electronically governed at 155 mph.

Audi presents the Audi e-tron Spyder, the study of an open sports car, at the fall 2010's largest auto show. The show car, with plug-in hybrid drive, is 4.06 meters (13.32 ft) long, 1.81 meters (5.94 ft) wide and only 1.11 meters (3.64 ft) high. The two-seater is equipped with a 221-kW (300-hp) twin-turbo V6 TDI at the rear axle and two electric motors producing a total of 64 kW at the front axle. The Audi e-tron Spyder's low total weight of only around 1450 kilograms (3196.70 lb) combined with the high-torque TDI and the two electric motors results in respectable performance. The car accelerates to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 4.4 seconds, and top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h (155.34 mph). The e-tron Spyder can combine the powerful torque of its TDI -- the diesel engine generates 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) and the total of 352 Nm (259.62 lb-ft) of its two electric motors during acceleration in a process known as "boosting."

As my friend and I were leaving a car show, we followed out an insane twin turbo LP560-4 Spyder by Underground Racing, putting out over 1000 hp, and a Corvette with the C5R race car's V8 engine. Unfortunately, the insane power turned the car around and it backed into the median. Not a very hard hit, and the owner was ok, but as you can see, the damage was extensive. A year after the R8 GT coupe was launched, and quickly sold out, now comes a Spyder sibling to take the role of flagship model for the Audi brand. The R8 GT Spyder features the same power plant as in the R8 GT coupe - a 5.2 liter FSI V10 unit producing 412 kW (560 PS / 552 bhp) and 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) of torque. Curb weight on the Spyder is just 1640 kg (3616 lbs), which is 85 kg less than on the R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI Quattro upon which it is based. The GT Spyder makes use of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) for several body panels as well as glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) for the seats to reduce weight. The R8 GT Spyder goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 317 km/h (196.97 mph). The fabric soft-top roof deploys or retracts in 19 seconds and can do so at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph). Like the R8 GT coupe, The GT Spyder will be limited to just 333 units.
