Carving - Ski Lesson

www.SofaSkiSchool.com This lesson is an introduction to carving for intermediate skiers. It should help people that have not discovered the edge yet to find this feeling. The main goal at this stage is to get the student NOT to turn his feet and slide but carve. To achieve this i am using more inside ski lead and hip counter than necessary as this makes the rolling of the knees easier. Once the student realizes that the skis turn all by themselves these things are reduced to the amount necessary. Instead of getting the student to edge by inclination - "leaning in" i stress the fundamental basic position. As i want to teach a technique which is consistent and works on the blues in the same way as on the black runs. The main ski fundamentals are described in detail in the 3 main lessons of the DVD. Furthermore you will find lessons on skiing the steeps, short turns and 14 additional drills "Sofa Ski School - From Blue to Black Diamond" 84minutes of ski instruction 3 reminder cards for the slopes FREE worldwide shipping FREE access to the new SSS website online in fall 2010 now available worldwide on: www.SofaSkiSchool.com

Create your own DIY guide at www.howcast.com or produce your own Howcast spots with the Howcast Filmmakers Program at www.howcast.com Tradition says slice at the table, but we think your guests will just as happy with a pretty, plated presentation. To complete this How-To you will need: A cooked turkey A cutting board A carving knife A serving tray Step 1: Carve in the kitchen Keep the turkey in the kitchen after it's cooked to let it cool slightly and the juices redistribute. Slicing that bird is a greasy, messy proposition, so keep your guests out of the splatter zone. Step 2: Remove the legs Place the turkey on a cutting board breast-side up. As you pull one leg away from the bird, slice through the skin and the joint connecting it to the body. Repeat with the other leg. Tip: Use a long, sharp carving knife. A short, dull blade will take longer, shred the meat, and increase your chance of injury. Step 3: Cut the leg meat Cut through the leg joint to separate the thigh from the drumstick, and set the drumstick aside. Cut as much meat as you can off the thighbone, trying to keep it in one large piece. Cut against the grain to create slices about a quarter of an inch thick. Step 4: Cut off the wings Pull one wing away from the body of the bird, and cut ...

How To Carve "Simple Simon" The Penguin- Part 1 (of 3)

This is part 1 (of 3) of "How To Carve Simple Simon The Penguin" video. This is a great project for the aspiring woodcarver who would like to try their hand at an entry-level "in-the-round" carving. Here you will be able to improve your hand/eye coordination with a 3-D project but not so complicated that you have to be trained as an architectural engineer to understand. In the video I'm using a piece of southern basswood that measures approximately 1" X 1" and the penguin portion of my block is 2-3/4" long. I'm carving with the "Carvin' Jack" made by Flexcut because it's a complete carving set that I could conveniently attach to my belt as I enjoyed walking deep into the woods where I filmed the video. This simple carving project was the subject of a wonderful thread on the Woodcarving Illustrated Message Board where folks generously offered their own versions of the penguin. This video is the final result of how I carve this project in my own personal style. If you carve this project several times I guarantee you that you too will begin to develop your own unique style in creating a penguin that you will be proud of. They make great gifts too so that is only another reason (or excuse) to carve several of them and you'll be gaining more valuable carving skills while also producing some gifts that folks will love. I've been using the step-by-step carving models for this little penguin in my woodshop carving program with great success. I've discovered that my 14-16 year old ...

How To Carve A Simple Woodspirit Face: Part 1

This woodspirit is a great first carving project for the beginning woodcarver and can be considered as an entry-level into faces. I've been using this simple and basic woodspirit face for many years as a teaching tool for helping the students in my woodshop class learn the elements of carving their own. After presenting some basic information on the different types of cuts most students can use one of my woodspirit learning sticks and do a fairly good job. If you decide to give it a try don't expect to have a masterpiece on the first few attempts. when I first started carving faces in wood I wasn't satisfied until about my 30th one! Carving faces takes a lot of time, patience, and practice. Study peoples faces while you are at work, at home, or at play and try to understand how all the parts fit together. As I mentioned in the video first carve the nose and the eyes, then base everything else around that and you will be well on your way. The woodspirit produced in this video was carved from a 1" X 1" piece of basswood. Perhaps in another video I will demonstrate how I carve a woodspirit with more detail such as raised eyebrows, eyes, teeth, tongues, and a variety of emotion and facial expressions. However it is very important that you first become comfortable with carving this very basic face then you should challenge yourself to the next level. Learning how to finish the face with stain or paint washes is another skill to achieve that is equal by comparison to learning ...

Betty's Watermelon Basket with Melon Salad (Basket Carved by Rick)

In this video, Betty and Rick demonstrate how to carve a watermelon to make a basket for holding melon salad. We used watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon for the salad, but you can add or substitute any fruits that you like better, 1 ripe medium-sized round, seedless watermelon 1 ripe cantaloupe 1 ripe honeydew melon Use a sharp knife to carefully carve the watermelon, so that it is in the form of a basket with a handle. Save the meat of the watermelon, in large chunks. Do not use the handle for carrying the watermelon. Place the watermelon in a close-fitting Pyrex dish. Now peel the cantaloupe and honeydew melon, and chop the meat of the watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon into edible wedge-shaped pieces. Fill the watermelon basket until it is mounded up toward the handle. Then place the remainder of the cut-up melon in a large clear bowl for serving separately or for replenishing the watermelon basket when it is low. This is a great treat to take to a potluck dinner or a brunch. It is very pretty, but also tasty and healthy! Enjoy!!!

How To Carve A Simple Woodspirit Face: Part 2
