Considered to be one of Venezuelas most proficient and popular congueros and bandleaders, Orlando takes his inspiration from Afro-Caribbean rhythms. He began his musical training in Caracas with Julio Mendez, and soon began attracting attention from respected Venezuelan percussionists. He also studied Afro-Venezuelan percussion with Miguel Urbina, and Afro-Cuban percussion at the Professional Improvement School in Havana.

Vintage 1978 LP Congas
Set of three white vintage 1978 Latin Percussion (LP) fiberglass congas . They were hand-crafted in Palisades Parks, New Jersey, USA (11" Quinto, 11"3/4 Conga and 12"1/2 Tumbadora each are 28.5 inches tall). Purchased new in 1978 and still in the possession of the original owner, these drums are clean and all the original hardware is pristine and free of corrosion. Each drum comes with the original LP emblem marked by Martin Cohen, founder of Latin Percussion. Each piece of hardware is stamped with the LP insignia and has been recently cleaned and oiled. The set comes with three brand new synthetic Evans heads. The advantage of synthetic heads is incredible durability, wash ability, temperature/humidity resistance and tuning stability. The drums are a piece of history and simply cannot be found new on the market today. The only slight imperfections are some very small scuff marks around the lug area due to the vintage style tuning system of bolts and washers. Comes with three original LP stands and two carrying cases (one is an original canvas LP bag). As you can see in the video the wear and tear is absolutely minimal. These drums are in spectacular condition considering their age.

This is the best way I can break it down for all you beginners to learn how to play Guaguanco on three congas. You'll find my teaching style quite unique to other people's way of teaching and this is because of the way I break down all the little parts to make it simple for you to understand what I'm presenting. Clave Slap Exercise on Congas - Rudy Quesada
I always love practicing this exercise. With the right hand your playing the clave as a closed slap and in this video its 3-2. With the left hand you play the "bass tip" sound with all of the other beats in between the clave. I try to play it as slow as possible. If you have a clave track to practice too, good. Remember start slow and gradually work your way up to faster tempos, eg, 40, 50, 60, beats per min.
