Copenhagen

Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark, with an urban population of 1167569 (2009) and a metropolitan population of 1875179 (2009). Copenhagen is situated on the islands of Zealand and Amager. First documented in the 11th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the beginning of the 15th century and during the 17th century under the reign of Christian IV it became an important regional centre. With the completion of the transnational Oresund Bridge in 2000, Copenhagen has become the centre of the increasingly integrating Oresund Region. Within this region, Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö are in the process of growing into one common metropolitan area. With around 2.7 million inhabitants within a 50 km radius, Copenhagen is one of the most densely populated areas in Northern Europe. Copenhagen is the most visited city of the Nordic countries with 1.3 million international tourists in 2007. Copenhagen is a major regional centre of culture, business, media, and science, as indicated by several international surveys and rankings (see International rankings below). Life science, information technology and shipping are important sectors and research & development plays a major role in the city's economy. Its strategic location and excellent infrastructure with the largest airport in Scandinavia located 14 minutes by train from the city centre, has made it a regional hub and a popular location for regional headquarters as well as conventions ...
Flash mob in the Copenhagen Metro. Copenhagen Phil playing Peer Gynt.

In April 2012 Copenhagen Phil (Sjællands Symfoniorkester) surprised the passengers in the Copenhagen Metro by playing Griegs Peer Gynt. The flash mob was created in collaboration with Radio Klassisk radioklassisk.dk All music was performed and recorded in the metro. Visit our website: copenhagenphil.dk and facebook: www.facebook.com Produced by makropol.dk The sound: The Copenhagen Metro is very quiet and the recording you hear is where the train is standing still. That's why the recording you hear is so clean and crisp - and the sound is actually surprisingly good in the Copenhagen metro. We did this deliberately because we feel that a good sound experience is vital when trying to portray the actual experience that day. Further to the main recording, when the train was standing still, the recordings from the cameras was, as far as possible, mixed into the sound. Quote from the sound technician: I recorded the sound with XY Oktava MK-012 supercardioid microphones close to the soloists and a set of DPA 4060 omnidirectional microphones as overhead for the rest of the orchestra. For some of the closeupshots, the cameramikes (Sennheiser ME 66) was added.

Copenhagen, Denmark: Christiania

In 1971, several hundred squatters took over an abandoned military barracks in Christiania and attempted to create their own utopia. Two generations later, 800 idealists still live here, defending their right to enjoy life on their terms, while real estate developers set their sights on this now desirable piece of land. Scott Walker - Copenhagen

"Copenhagen" by Scott Walker, wich is on the CD Scott 3. Lyrics: ----------------------------- Hope for me, I hope for you, We're snowdrops falling through the night. We'll melt away before we land, Two teardrops for somebody's hand. Follow me into just one more Spring. Copenhagen, you're the end, Gone and made me a child again. Warmed my feet beneath cold sheets, Dyed my hair with your sunny streets. Children aren't afraid to love And laugh when life amuses them. And our love is an antique song For children's carousels

Copenhagen, Denmark: Rosenborg Castle

Copenhagen has lots of idyllic parks. Its most royal is the King's Garden surrounding the Rosenborg Castle, summer residence to Denmark's "big personality" king, Christian IV, who ruled from 1588 until 1648. The castle's basement holds cases of treasures to dazzle visitors, including the finest renaissance crown in Europe, from Christian IV's coronation in 1596. The Copenhagen Wheel - Teaser

THE COPENHAGEN WHEEL Smart, responsive and elegant, the Copenhagen Wheel is a new emblem for urban mobility. It transforms ordinary bicycles quickly into hybrid e-bikes that also function as mobile sensing units. The Copenhagen Wheel allows you to capture the energy dissipated while cycling and braking and save it for when you need a bit of a boost. It also maps pollution levels, traffic congestion, and road conditions in real-time. SENSE and SUSTAINABILITY Controlled through your smart phone, the Copenhagen Wheel becomes a natural extension of your everyday life. You can use your phone to unlock and lock your bike, change gears and select how much the motor assists you. As you cycle, the wheels sensing unit is also capturing your effort level and information about your surroundings, including road conditions, carbon monoxide, NOx, noise, ambient temperature and relative humidity. Access this data through your phone or the web and use it to plan healthier bike routes, to achieve your exercise goals or to meet up with friends on the go. You can also share your data with friends, or with your city - anonymously if you wish thereby contributing to a fine-grained database of environmental information from which we can all benefit. ABOUT the PROJECT The Copenhagen Wheel will be unveiled on December 15 at the COP15 United Nations Climate Conference. The project was conceived and developed by the SENSEable City Lab for the Kobenhavns Kommune. The prototype bikes were realized ...

Congestion in Copenhagen (YIKES: BIKES)

Tens of thousands of people commute by bike each day via Torvegade in Copenhagen. Here's the crush of rush hour - sure beats the honking and fumes of rush hour in NYC! OK, I have to admit, I had a little help. This was the backup resulting from the raising of the Knippelsbro drawbridge. It took quite a while to clear the backup (note how orderly everyone is, for the most part staying in the bike lane) - and there isn't much of a backup of cars or trucks!

www.indiegogo.com It was raining so we were inspired by 'Singing In The Rain' and the awesome Copenhagen Opera House. Ittook 3 weeks, we drove over 4000 miles and visited 8 countries but we did it! Daniel Ilabaca travelled across Europe to meet Parkour and Freerunning communities in London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Copenhagen, Vienna, Milan, Barcelona and Paris. In each city we met and trained with the locals, did a bit of filming and then ended the day with a massive jam. We filmed every step of the journey and over the next few months we'll be showing you what happened. And all this happened because the nice people behind 'Brink' supported us. Recorded August 9, 2011: The first minute of the video was recorded eleven days earlier when I arrived in the city just prior to my eleven day Baltic cruise. The remainder of the video was shot after the cruise was over. My walk through the city takes me past City Hall and down Strøget, the longest pedestrian shopping area in Europe. My walk continues through Amager Square and over to Christiansborg Palace. Strøget ends at Kongens Nytorv (King's New Square), the largest square in the city. My walk concludes back at my hotel, the Radisson Blu Royal. I spend the rest of the day at Tivoli Gardens which is located across the street from my hotel. From: timvp.com

Copenhagen - best quality of life

Copenhagen is the city in the world with the highest quality of life. The renowned British magazine Monocle, whose editor in chief Tyler Brûlé is also the founder of Wallpaper Magazine, has ranked Copenhagen no. 1 in its 2008 global quality of life survey. Copenhagen leaves all the other cities behind because of its development in architecture, design and gourmet food. Also the city's public transportation, bicycle culture, harbor baths, green public spaces and trendy cafes contribute to a high quality of life. Not least Copenhagen manages to integrate design in everyday life to make life easy and friction-free for residents as well as visitors. According to Monocle, the Danish capital is designed for life. Read the full story at www.visitcopenhagen.dk In 2009 and 2010 Copenhagen came in second as Monocle's best quality of life city, while Munich took first place.
