HURRICANE THRILLER: EYEWALL, THE NOVEL

Retired Weather Channel meteorologist Buzz Bernard has written a top-notch summer thriller set on the Georgia coast. Hurricane Janet is a relatively harmless category 1 storm, predicted to merely brush South Carolina. But suddenly, despite the warnings of a savvy Atlanta weatherman, the storm is shifting into a monster, and turning directly toward the posh Georgia community of St. Simons Island, where the beaches are packed with Labor Day vacationers. As the courages crew of an Air Force Hurricane Hunter battles their way through the growing storm, a troubled family on the island is stranded during the panic-driven rush to evacuate. They're searching for a runaway teen daughter who's hidden somewhere in the super-exclusive Sea Island enclave. It's a race against time and a category five hurricane. Will the island itself survive? Now available at bookstores everywhere. www.bellbridgebooks.com and www.buzzbernard.com. Contact editor Deborah Smith at deborahsmith@bellebooks.com for more information.

Hurricane Irene Eye Wall [Part 1]

- Part 1 of 5 - This is a series of videos which I recorded from my house as the eyewall of Hurricane Irene approached, and passed over my area during the mid-to-late morning hours of Sunday, August 28th 2011. I live in Naugatuck, CT. We received 8.7 inches of rain, sustained tropical storm force winds and category 1 hurricane gusts. Already this storm has caused +50% the record number of people without power in CT (old record was just under 500000 from the '93 Superstorm). In addition, 2000 telephone poles were blown down... and water reached as far as one half mile inland in Milford, CT. Massive flooding ensued on all rivers in Western and Central CT. Also some houses were lost to the storm surge. To make this video, I took about 3 hours of footage starting during the approach of the eye wall, and then made clips out of most of the more intense parts of the storm, in terms of wind. In terms of rain, even though it gets intense in this video... it was nothing compared to what had occurred between 10PM and 6AM (I started the video around 6AM). There was some very intense thunderstorms in the outer bands, as to be expected.... followed by ridiculously heavy rain bands. I have never seen rain as heavy as that, and I've been through a couple tropical storms. Irene was unique due to its size. Many along the Mid-Atlantic coast consider it a flop, but once it reached southern New England it did its true damage. My town is about 15 miles away from the coast, therefor the ...

Super Typhoon Melor Eyewall Replacement Cycle

October 5-6 2009, the winds were 135 knots or 156 mph. Gusts were up to 165 knots or 190 mph. Watch the zoomed in loop. The dark region wrapping around the center is the eyewall replacement cycle, which most super typhoons and major hurriances experience. As the eyewall winds up tightly around the center of the storm, a second eyewall form farther away. This tightens up and replaces the original eye. It is a way a strong storm helps to prevent collapsing on itself.

Extreme wind gust of category 5 strength inside the eyewall of Hurricane Charley

www.UltimateChase.com EXCLUSIVE and RARE VIDEO Strongest Wind Gust Recorded on Video inside a Hurricane. At 03:08 in this video you will witness a Category 5 wind gust estimated well over 155mph !!!! This video has become famous and known worldwide as the "Hurricane Charley Gas Station" video. Mike Theiss of Ultimate Chase captures some of the strongest winds ever caught on video inside a Hurricane with an estimate wind gust well over 155mph during Hurricane Charley on August 13th, 2004 in Charlotte Harbor, Florida. This rare Category 5 wind gust is embedded with in Charley's eyewall with sustained winds of 125mph. Mike believes a "mini-swirl" or "sub-vortices" was embedded in the eyewall and went right over his location during this sudden wind gusts. Scientist believe Hurricane Andrew had numerous "mini-swirls" that devastated South Florida back in 1992. While in Charley's eye Mike recorded a low barometric pressure of 942mb which was used in The National Hurricane Centers final report of Hurricane Charley. To read the chase account and see a map of Mike's location and to learn more about this insane documentation, please go to this link: mthurricane.com .

CYCLONE YASI ONLY MEDIA IN EYEWALL FEB 2011.flv

We were the only media in the eyewall of Cyclone Yasi. We stayed in the reception area of the Elandra Resort at Mission Beach during the cyclone filming what we could until it became too dangerous to venture further out. In the morning we were trapped in the resort for hours as locals used chainsaws to clear the driveway. The rainforest around the resort looked as if it had been defoliated by agent orange, the winds shredding leaves and breaking branches and toppling trees. The resort faired better than many places around Mission Beach but it still didn't escape unscathed. This vision is copyright.
