Florida Panther (Puma concolor) in Collier Seminole State Park

This is a video tape my buddy Jeff and I were lucky enough to capture in Collier Seminole State Park just South of Naples Florida. Real panther, in the wild. We followed the Panther for about twenty minutes down one of the park roads at dusk. The best shots occur at 1:18, 2:27, 3:30 & 4:30.

Jeff the Zoo Guy brings you a special look at a rare and endangered species. With only 70 Florida Panthers believed to be alive in the wild, it's heartbreaking to think that this baby might be one of the last panthers you will ever get to see in your lifetime.

15 Florida Panthers killed in 2007! - Big Cat TV

At Big Cat Rescue we often try to help others understand why the cat populations are going down in places like Asia and Africa. We sometime forget that this is happening in our own backyard. Take a look at the current situation of the Florida Panther. Even though their numbers are slightly higher than reported in the 1980's after decades of over hunting there are more killed on the roads than ever before. In 2006 we had 11 endangered panthers killed by vehicles. And in 2007 we have 15 so far. The total population is only 80-100 left. *you will hear Brian say 14 twice in the video as in the time it took from filming to producing another cat was killed) What will be the future of these predators here in Florida? The police trying to ticket speeders and the few protected fenced roadways can only do so much. It is up to us to decide if we really will change the way we use up land and resources to allow room for these beautiful predators. Thanks for watching. Panther Project: How we collar a Florida panther

Using ATVs or buggies, dogs with tracking devices, short wave radio communication and determination, the Florida Fish & Wildlife (FWC) Panther Project Team divides and sets out to catch and collar a Florida Panther. Panther Project scientists use information received from each panther's collar to study habitat selection, the genetic health of the species, and to monitor the population in order to ensure its continued recovery. The panther study and help for the species depends on funds from the sale of the specialty license plate. Florida Panther at Corkscrew

A rare daylight sighting of a Florida Panther was captured on video at Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida as it took a morning stroll on the sanctuary boardwalk. Panthers, typically shy and nocturnal, are rarely seen and prefer to avoid people. The video was shot on the morning of May 12 at 8:15 am as the panther walked from the pine flatwood across a prairie and into the cypress forest. Corkscrew volunteers Dick Brewer and Phil Nye saw the cat ahead of them on the boardwalk, and Brewer shot the video. The panther continued on the boardwalk for almost a half mile before finally jumping off and disappearing.

Florida Panther Mother and Three Kittens In The Wild

From what I have been told by the National Park Service, this candid camera video of a free ranging Florida Panther and her three kittens is the first of it's kind where the panthers are not aware of any human presence and they are exhibiting their true natural behavior in their natural habitat of the Florida Everglades Big Cypress National Preserve. I set up this video surveillance system on an old long abandoned homestead sight that is high and dry. (This is why you will see the vintage cast iron tum in the foreground)

Rare Florida Panther Spotted Near Miami

A surveillance security camera mounted on a South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) water control structure captured video of an unlikely visitor: a Florida panther. The big cats once roamed the southeastern United States, but only about 100 to 160 adult animals live today in South Florida. Florida panthers are now rarely encountered in the wild. WHERE: The video was recorded August 31, 2011 about 8 pm in western Miami-Dade County on the eastern edge of Everglades National Park. (courtesy of South Florida Water Management District)

Florida Panthers are spotted at birth and typically have blue eyes. As the panther grows the spots fade and the coat becomes completely tan while the eyes typically become more of a yellow. One of the highest causes of mortality for Florida panthers are automobile collisions. There are less than 150 Florida Panthers left in the wild. And at least 10 panthers are killed each year by collisions with cars. 17 panthers died on Florida's roads in 2008 alone, which means that more than 10% of the panther population met their doom on the bumpers of speeding cars. But, the tragedy these elusive predators doesn't end just there. Female panthers leave their kittens behind when hunting for food... Needless to say, that these helpless kittens will just die of starvation or being killed by other predators if their mothers doesn't return.
