Climbing Mt. Fuji Fujisan
Watch our climb up the Subashiri route on Mt. Fuji (Fuji san). We began from the town of Gotemba in the Shizuoka prefecture of Japan. We left town on a bus bound for the fifth station, where all climbs up this route of Fuji begin. We brought a small amount of food and some warm clothing for the freezing temperatures at the top. After summiting, we descended to one of the huts along the route to catch a few hours of sleep and to see the best sunrise ever. Video diary of climbing Mount Fuji July 2007. haha, super dramatic, but it was damn hard!! By the way... the back story on this is: I climbed Fuji with my family when I was 11. At one point I looked up and saw how much was left and decided I couldn't make it. So my father put me in a sleeping bag under a signpost and said, "wait here till we get back." I've regretted that decision ever since and vowed that I would someday conquer Fuji-san!

View on Fuji san from a house in the five lake region. The Fuji Five Lake (Fujigoko) region lies at the northern base of Mount Fuji about 1000 meters above sea level around the lakes Kawaguchiko, Saiko, Yamanakako, Shojiko and Motosuko. It is one of the best places to view Mount Fuji from a close distance and a good base for climbing the mountain. Fujigoko is known as a lake resort area, where hiking, camping, fishing and snow sports are among the popular outdoor activities that can be enjoyed. There are also plenty of hot springs and museums found in the area, along with Fuji Q Highlands, one of Japan's most popular amusement parks, featuring the Fujiyama and Eejanaika roller coasters. Among the lakes, Lake Kawaguchiko is the easiest to access and offers the most things to see and do for the average foreign traveler. The four other lakes are less developed than Lake Kawaguchiko and are not as easy to access by public transportation.

Fuji-san - Bergbesteigung
Am 20. August 2011 bestiegen wir den Berg Fuji auf der sogenannten "Fujinomiya-Route", beginnend bei einer Höhe von 2400 Metern (5. Station). Mit dem Wetter hatten wir extremes Pech, nachdem wir zuvor zweieinhalb Wochen lang Sonnenschein und Hitze in Japan erleben durften. Doch an genau an den zwei Tagen, die für die Besteigung des Fuji "reserviert" waren schlug das Wetter zu unseren Ungunsten um. Trotzdessen entschieden wir uns den Aufstieg zu wagen und fast jeder aus unserer Reisegruppe schaffte es (trotz der Bedingungen) bis zur Spitze. Diejenigen, die es nicht schafften, mussten leider wegen ihrer wetterbedingt unzureichenden Kleidung aufgeben. Die Aufnahmen zeigen den Aufstieg meiner Eltern. Wir alle erreichten die Spitze zu unterschiedlichen Zeiten, da jeder von uns sein eigenes Tempo verfolgte. Meine Eltern waren die letzten beiden, welche die oberste Station erreichten, aber wenn man sich ihr Alter und körperliche Fitness vor Augen führt, ist es eine tolle Leistung, dass sie es unter diesen widrigen Bedingungen bis ganz nach oben geschafft haben. Etwa ab Mitte des Videoclips müsst ihr eventuell die Lautstärke etwas zurückdrehen, da ab 3000 Meter und höher der Wind extrem über den Berg und somit auch ins Mikro des Camcorders pfiff. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the 20th of August we were ascending the Mount Fuji, going the Fujinomiya route and starting at 2400m (5th station). One day I took a train heading toward Ito with plans to see the ocean, but I ended up seeing Fuji. I got off at Hara station and walked into the countryside for a while, crossing many fields in the direction of the mountain.

By Train to Fujisan, Japan (base of Mt. Fuji)
Unedited iPhone video of part of a rail journey from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko, a tourist town near the base of Mt. Fuji. I held my iPhone to the glass behind the driver's cabin. Mt. Fuji itself is not visible due to clouds, but the journey itself is kind of interesting. The video ends at Fujisan, about two stops before Kawaguchiko. (The train changes direction here, but I thought at the time that I had arrived at the terminus.)
