(Part 1 of 3) This documentary gives an inside perspective on the strange and interesting subculture known as the furry fandom. Filmed at Midwest Furfest 2010, a major furry convention, the fandom is explained by furries in their own words. This project was both a personal and an academic undertaking. The concept and production was my own, but I also got college credit for producing it, as an independent study at Bradley University. --- NOTICE --- Any comments posted plugging your website, art page, etc. or those of your friends will be deleted, no matter how friendly. ITV2's "OMG" did a section on furries. I was pleased with how they protrayed us, so I decided to upload the recording I made of it :3 Edit: Peaches Geldof told the BBC this; "Dom Joly was a handful. Actor Christopher Judge from Stargate SG-1 asks what furries are when his co-star Michael Shanks mentions being freaked out after encountering a group of them at Dragon*Con. The audience and Michael's wife Lexa Doig explain it to him. His reaction is... hilarious. I took this at Dragon*Con in Atlanta this year, 2007. I see this vid has been posted around, but it is, indeed, my vid. ;)

'Attack of the Show' came to visit FWA, the anthropomorphic convention of downtown Atlanta, GA. Sara Underwood took to the convention with her cam crew and I got to land a spot in one of her interviews at 1:40 while wearing a friend's fursuit. I also appeared in the Parade footage at 0:32 with EagleBeagle. The convention is held at the Sheraton Hotel. This took place March 17th - 21st. Got in the parade footage right in the middle! The 'Hip Fox' character was my friends suit, but I was loaning it from him throughout the convention. The next FWA convention has been themed 'Moulin Rouge' and it is going down in 2012.

There once was a time when furry fandom was just a loosely organized offshoot of comic/sci-fi/fantasy fandom dedicated to animal characters in movies, TV, comics and video games. There once was a time when there were no anti-social elitist/seperatist furries using the term "human" with the same hate-filled tone of voice the KKK uses the word "nigger", and there were no anti-furry hatemongerers screaming "Yiff in Hell". There once was a time when furry fandom was fun. But somewhere along the line a lot of furry fans started taking themselves much too seriously. Over the years they turned furry fandom into a sub-culture, almost like a cult. And like any cult it garnered alot of hateful backlash. And that backlash compelled them to bizarre acts which incurred more hate which lead to even more bizarre behavior... There once was a time when I was much more involved in the fandom. And inspired by Eric Schwartz' animated cartoon "A Walk In The Park" (which has been uploaded several times to YouTube) I tried my hand at animation, and eventually I created my first animated cartoon, "Heather Fox", way back in 1998...back when furry fandom was fun. I miss those days of long ago.

Usually, when you hear about people who dress up like life-sized stuffed animals, it's in the context of an unfriendly internet joke, a sex gag on Entourage, or an insult that ends with "yiff in hell." But Brooklyn-based filmmaker Marianne Shaneen has spent more than two years following these people around, capturing their lives in and out of their "fursonas." She's working on a documentary film called AMERICAN FURRY: Life, Liberty and the Fursuit of Happiness. Today on Boing Boing tv, an exclusive peek at this feature in progress. Marianne provided us with access to some of her raw footage (she's accumulated 2+ years' worth!), and we selected clips, edited, added some audio, and produced the short glimpse you'll see here. Anthrocon 2011 - Furries Are Magic
A long time coming, here it is. The theme for this year's Anthrocon was "The Anthropomorphic Institute of Magic". Not satisfied with completely following the rules, I took "magic" and bent it to my will. Through association, this is now very loosely a pony based video. The Haunting of Sunshine Girl - Creepy Furry scares me!
www.TheHauntingOfSunshineGirl.com My mom and I walk around the old waterfront at Newport, OR. First we stand on a pier and she tries to tell me about some place that we stayed when I was a kid but I don't remember it because I'm distracted from not falling off the old, creepy pier and falling to my death in the icy water. Once we safely make it off the haunted pier (ok not haunted) we walk down further. This actually still is a fishing town and the whole place smells like fish... yuck. Just looking around it seems like it could be haunted. There's some good books about what a crazy fishing town Newport used to be. Anyway, then we check out the wax works, just the outside of it. We're not going to spend money to go in that place. SUCK! And then a terrifying thing happens to me and it's not even a ghost. It's a giant big furry creature and I hate those. Mom wants me to go up to it but there's no way in hell I'm going anywhere near that thing. So then I get teased about it! Hope you like my video! make sure and subscribe to catch all my videos!
