The First Amendment was created to give American citizens a voice and provide acheck on powers in the US. With police brutality stepping into the spotlight,many feel that recording police is guaranteed under the First Amendment. In Illinois, however, video taping police and obtaining an audio recording of officers on duty could have landed a felony charges for citizen journalists until only very recently. The state of Illinois is trying to charge Allison with five counts of wiretapping, each punishable by four to 15 years in prison. Allison refused a plea deal which would have seen him serve no jail time but would reinforce the hoax that it is illegal to film police officers, as well as acting as a chilling effect to prevent other Americans from filming cases of police brutality. Allison has chosen to reject the plea bargain and fight to clear his name via a jury trial, arguing, "If we don't fight for our freedoms here at home we're all going to lose them." This is one of the few UFO movies you'll ever see that's actually worth watching. Several police officers called in a report on it and one even snapped a photo (albeit a very bad Polaroid). NO ONE IS SUGGESTING THAT THIS IS AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL SPACE CRAFT! I'm from this area and everyone here assumes it was some kind of military or experimental aircraft. Boeing flies experimental aircraft here at night all the time. The interest in this video lies in the fact that someone has invented an aircraft that can both hover and accelerate at great speeds, and it can do so in near silence. Everyone in this video (which includes the testimonies of several eye witness police officers from several counties) claimed that what they saw was as thick as a 2 story building and about as long as a football field. Whatever we've got out there now seems to be an amazing achievement in aeronautical engineering. We'll probably find out all about in a few years, but right now it's fun to speculate.

Is Jon Stewart a comedian, entertainer, political pundit, or newscaster? My research hypothesis is that while he may wear each of these hats at various times, his most important role is media criticism. In short, I suggest that he is the Marshall McLuhan for the Millennial Generation. My project analyzes The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to determine how much time the show spends on critiques of the mass media, in relation to other topics, and examines the nature of those critiques. By quantitatively and qualitatively comparing episodes of Stewart's programs in the 2007/2008 and 2011/2012 presidential election seasons I will also be able to see whether Stewart's media criticism has evolved over time.
