Recently, I recycled my old TiVo. It had been out of service since 2001. Before it was gone, I took a look at the programs from 2001 still stored there. Surprisingly, this Nightly News broadcast from September 11, 2001 was still there. Does my sharing of this broadcast, this piece of American history, break NBC's copyright? Perhaps it does. Perhaps NBC could be selling this piece of our lives back to us which would be their right as the people who paid the salaries of people involved in the reporting and for the cost of the equipment and facilities.
