London 2012 Olympic Games countdown begins
www.timesofearth.com Exactly two years from today and the world will be looking to London for the start of the Olympic Games on Friday 27 July 2012. And to mark the two years to go milestone, London 2012 organisers are calling on the UK public to start planning their games to ensure they don't miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime event. To celebrate the countdown, athletes and young people will today (27 July) join Organising Committee chair Seb Coe, Olympic Delivery Authority chairman John Armitt, Olympics Minister Rt Hon Hugh Robertson MP and Mayor of London Boris Johnson on the train from St Pancras International to Stratford International. The group will then take a tour of the Olympic Park and, for the first time, step inside venues to witness first hand the progress being made in construction. They will also walk across the main spectator bridge which will be the 'front door' to the Olympic Park in 2012, joined by 70 athletes. Later today, young athletes will join multi-Olympic medallist Michael Johnson running inside the Olympic Stadium on a specially laid track. Gold medal winning cyclist, Sir Chris Hoy, will welcome visitors to the 2012 velodrome and become the first person to cycling around the new track. Former NBA star John Amaechi will accompany young basketball players and shoot the first hoop inside the basketball arena. Sydney 2000 Olympic Games - 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay - Australia Tribute
This is a video clip I made back in 2000 for our Aussie swimmers after they won a gold medal in the Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in a world record time. The song used in this clip is Saltwater by Chicane. Released: 1999 Record Label: Xtravaganza This clip was made as a memento for the guys and was not intended for public viewing but all these years later it's found itself on Youtube for others to relive. The Australian 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay Team was made up of the great Ian Thorpe, Michael Klim, Todd Pearson and Bill Kirby. What made the event even more interesting was that Bill Kirby along with fellow Western Australian team mate, Todd Pearson, had to out swim legendary Australian team mates Grant Hackett and Daniel Kowalski just to earn their positions in the final team with Thorpe and Klim. Just making the final team was a huge achievement considering the strength of all six relay swimmers. The final of the Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay at the Sydney 2000 Olympics was held on September 19, 2000. The Aussies won the relay by 15 meters and finished a clear body length in front of the world record line. The splits are shown below.
