Papantonio: Republicans The Losers In War On Terror

If you've been listening to Republican talking heads in the last few weeks, you'd think that President Obama has been one of the worst presidents when it comes to foreign policy and keeping America safe. But that couldn't be any further from the truth. Obama, unlike Bush before him, has taken a hard line stance against terrorist organizations, and has captured or killed more than 30 top Al Qaeda leaders, including Osama Bin Laden. Right now we're going to take a deeper look into what's happened to Al Qaeda since the death of Bin Laden -- joining Mike Papantonio for that discussion is Brian Katulis, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.

Obamacare ARMAGEDDON! Hilarious Republican Predictions

Via Think Progress: "Today is the two-year anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the Affordable Care Act, which, once fully implemented will cover 30 million Americans and begin to lower the rate of growth in health care spending. Since reform passed, however, Republicans have voted to repeal or defund the law at least 25 times and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is preparing to focus largely on health care as he charts "a course for a Republican Senate in 2013 and what could be a bruising reelection bid in 2014." During the nearly 10-month legislative battle that preceded passage and in the years after, the GOP characterized the bill as a "socialist" "government takeover" and warned Americans that the bill would destroy lives and American society, hurling apocalyptic warnings that seem downright satirical two years later...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down, including laughable warnings from Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann. * thinkprogress.org Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. Why Democrat vs. Republican is the Wrong Way to Look at the 2012 Election

"We had a non-Obama president recently, his name was George W. Bush, it wasn't all puppy dogs and rainbows," says Reason's Matt Welch. "Being Republican is not enough to counter Obama. Mitt Romney is not offering an alternative to Obama," adds Reason.tv's Nick Gillespie. From Newt Gingrich's inexplicable campaign chatter about a taxpayer-subsidized colony on the moon to Mitt Romney's refusal to discuss any specific spending cuts he would implement as president, Republicans continue to offer no real substantive alternative to President Obama's spendthrift economic policies. Welch and Gillespie, the co-authors of "TheDeclaration of Independents: How Libertarian Politics Can Fix What's Wrong with America," hosted the discussion "Why Democrat vs. Republican is the Wrong Way to Look at the 2012 Election" at Reason Weekend, the annual donor event held by Reason Foundation (the nonprofit that publishes this website). Runs about 30.41 minutes. Produced by Anthony L. Fisher, shot by Josh Swain and Fisher. Weekly Republican Address 5/12/12: Rep. Kristi Noem (SD)

In this week's address, Rep. Kristi Noem (SD) discusses House Republicans' Plan for America's Job Creators. It's a plan to reduce burdensome regulations, simplify our tax code, expand American energy production, cut Washington's out of control spending binge, and provide an environment for our nation's small businesses to grow. Dozens of bipartisan House-passed jobs bills sit idle in the Democrat-controlled Senate, and the president continues to distract and divide on the campaign trail. We can't wait for Senate Democrats and the president to work with us to grow our economy and get Americans back to work.

In the Weekly Republican Address, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) challenges President Obama to press for Senate action on bipartisan, House-passed energy bills. Republicans are desperate to kill health care reform - help stop them.

The best way to stop them? Donate to the Two Term Fund: my.barackobama.com Most candidates promise to do something great, even historic, on their first day in office. But this year's Republican presidential candidates are oddly and singularly focused: They'd all repeal Obamacare on Day One, and take our health care system right back to where it was. These candidates apparently don't care who would lose services, pay more, or instantly find themselves uninsured, because they've all placed their bets on this promise getting them into the White House.

Republicans Backing Popular Obamacare Provisions

Source: www.politico.com House Republican leaders are quietly hatching a plan of attack as they await a historic Supreme Court ruling on President Barack Obama's health care law. If the law is upheld, Republicans will take to the floor to tear out its most controversial pieces, such as the individual mandate and requirements that employers provide insurance or face fines. If the law is partially or fully overturned they'll draw up bills to keep the popular, consumer-friendly portions in place — like allowing adult children to remain on parents' health care plans until age 26, and forcing insurance companies to provide coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. Ripping these provisions from law is too politically risky, Republicans say. Jim DeMint: Why Republicans Must Become More Libertarian

"The new debate in the Republican party needs to be between conservatives and libertarians," says Sen. Jim DeMint (RS.C.). "A lot of the libertarian ideas that Ron Paul is talking about...should not be alien to any Republican." Yet right after the 2010 midterm elections, the influential Tea Party favorite proclaimed that "you can't be a fiscal conservative and not be a social conservative," a comment that was widely viewed as a slap at libertarians. And South Carolina's junior senator is also a staunch pro-lifer, has favored a constitutional ban on flag burning, and is on the record saying that gays shouldn't be allowed to teach at public schools. More recently, DeMint has been leaning libertarian. His new book, Now or Never: Saving America from Economic Collapse, is a warning to the nation that we need radical spending cuts (including putting defense spending on the table) or else face economic oblivion. And he was instrumental in getting Tea Party Republicans elected in 2010, including the most libertarian member of the caucus, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who also wrote the foreword to DeMint's book.Reason's Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch sat down with DeMint for a wide-ranging discussion about fiscal vs. social conservatism, cutting spending, the GOP presidential nomination, whether the Tea Party still matters, and much more. Jon Huntsman Compares Republican Party to Communist Party

Follow @SlateViral and Facebook.com/SlateVideo, Watch more: SlateV.com, Jon Huntsman is raising eyebrows this week for comparing America's Grand Old Party to the Communist Party during remarks at a New York City event. The former Utah governor was complaining about being disinvited to a major Republican fundraising event during his presidential bid, apparently because Huntsman had made statements supporting the idea of a third party candidate in 2012's presidential race. "This is what they do in China on party matters if you talk off script," said Huntsman, speaking at the 92nd Street Y. As the former ambassador to China under President Obama, Huntsman should know. He also said that his fellow Republicans were often "wrong-headed" in their policy approaches toward China. Along with an apparent disinterest in further endorsing assumed nominee Mitt Romney, or serving as a surrogate for his former rival in 2012, Huntsman may find himself receiving even fewer invites to Republican events. Dear Jon: Maybe it's time to stop talking about a third party and start one yourself.

Why Republicans don't want you to re-fi you're home...

Right now more than 11 million Americans are underwater on their home mortgages - meaning they owe more money than their house is worth. There's an easy solution. Say somebody has a house with a $200000 mortgage on it, but because of the Bush Crash the house is only worth $150000. If the bank were to write down the mortgage to $150000, then the homeowner could refinance at today's low rates, or sell the house - both of which would massively stimulate the economy. Banks don't want to do this because they'd have to come up with the $50000 - but there's a mechanism already in place to take that load off the banks - and that's for Fanny or Freddie - who backstop about 80 percent of US home mortgages - to take the hit. There's even a law that lets them do it - it would get the economy up and running immediately and overnight. But Republicans in the Senate are blocking it - and they're succeeding because they have an inside man on the job. Meet Ed Demarco - the acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency - which oversees mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And according to Huffington Post Business Editor Peter Goodman - DeMarco is, "The single largest obstacle to meaningful economic recovery and a man who most Americans have probably never heard of..." Blue Republican - How to Register Republican for Ron Paul (update Oct 21)

Blue Republicans are people who have never before thought of joining the Republican party, but are going to do so for one year to ensure that Ron Paul wins the Republican nomination for President in 2012. Many of us previously identified as Democrats or Independents and/or supported Obama in 2008. We believe that on issues that matter most -- war vs. peace (Iraq, Yemen etc.), civil liberties (Patriot Act etc.), and crony corporatism (bailouts etc.) -- Obama has pursued a course similar to that of George Bush. States are changing their systems all the time so ALWAYS CHECK YOUR OWN STATE INFORMATION to make sure you do what you need to do to make Ron Paul the Republican nominee for President
