Ristar (Sega Genesis) Gameplay #1

Gameplay of the first planet of this wonderful game - Ristar! The game is developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA in 1995 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. You start playing as somekind of humanoid star, using his hands to combat enemies. There are total of 9 planets (i think) and each planet has 2 areas and a boss area, kinda like Sonic (witch makes sense). When you start you have 4 lives and each live is of 4 stars. There are bonus areas and golden chests witch give you: a star; a blue star that replenishes all of your health; diamonds and other stuff. The controls are great. The areas are cool and the music is just AWESOME! I'm in planet 3 so far, but i think i will upload gameplay videos on the other planets if i can.

Ristar (SG) Super Mode Ending

Ending for Super Mode for Ristar on Sega Genesis. The ending is the same in Normal and Hard mode except in those, you get a password that unlocks Super Mode. Basically, Super Mode is impossible without cheating, especially if you're aiming to get all 12 treasures to unlock the 4 bonus passwords. You get 1 life for the entire game and you die instantly if you're hit. You do get infinite continues but those are kind of useless if you can't get passed a certain part. Ristar Super Mode Entire Boss Rush

This is a video from one of my favorite games of all time, Ristar for the Sega Genesis. I'm playing the Boss Rush mode on the Super difficulty, possibly the hardest challenge in the game, because you have to beat every boss in succession without taking a hit. It did take me a few retries to do this. The hard part was trying to do this in under 10 minutes; I ended up finishing with only a few seconds to spare on this run. The video is taken from gameplay on Steve Snake's Fusion emulator (sorry, my Genesis is broken). Video was recorded with RenderSoft's free CamStudio, while audio was taken using Fusion's default .wav capture feature. Video and audio were joined using the very useful and free VirtualDub. I'm a pretty new YouTube user, and this is my first video, so let me know if I need to fix anything.

Here, enjoy some Ristar, played by me. Ugh, I definitely could have done better here. BTW, this is only a playthrough. Although I am attempting to go quickly, it's not a speed run. I left all deaths and mess-ups intact. DISCLAIMER: I did not make Ristar, nor claim rights to him, the video game, and other concepts and etc.

Ristar - Boss Run - Part 1

I'm not entirely sure why I haven't done a video of this game before this, especially considering it's one of my favourite Megadrive games of all time.. but oh well. Sub-Boss names are totally made up, and if anyone has the actual name of the Freon sub-boss, it'd help. I knew it at one point, but have forgot it completely. And Ristar Cluster being down doesn't help. This video contains the bosses and sub-bosses from the first four worlds. Couple of Boss Notes: Flora Sub: The boss is temporarly invunerable after you hit him. If it's possible to kill him without moving, I certainly haven't pulled it off. Flora Boss: Button mashing at it's finest. XD Undertow Sub: Strange boss. Very strange. Undertow Boss: Whilst it's possible to hit him during the fish attack... the timing is pretty damn precise, and I was at the wrong side of the screen to do anything about it. Scorch Sub: Did anyone else find this to be extremely hard as a kid? I used to have to write the order down on paper to beat this thing. XD Scorch Boss: Wow. I got lucky. It didn't use the aerial attacks once. It's not too hard to him in the air, but I wish he'd pulled it off at least once, as it looks fairly impressive. This is probably my favourite boss in the game. Sonata Sub: The first time the heads go down is slower than the rest. That's why you can hit it three times. Sonata Boss: Another awesome battle. For the record, the bits falling from the cieling hurt you. I know they look like detail but.. they're not ...

CGR Undertow - RISTAR for Sega Genesis Video Game Review

Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Ristar from SEGA for the SEGA Genesis. Ristar shares a lot in common with Sonic the Hedgehog in terms of aesthetics and level design, but they embrace an entirely different set of gameplay principles. Where the Sonic games focus on running through the levels as quickly as possible, Ristar is a much slower game — in fact, it's more in line with traditional platformers, and that leads to a host of advantages. We love Ristar! This video review features video gameplay footage of Ristar for the SEGA Genesis and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.

Ristar - Boss Run - Part 2

Wow. This game, broke my controller. Cheers for that last bonus stage and Greedy's Space City, Sega... go break the hands and controllers of your audience why don't you. My controller gave up halfway through the last level, I ended up having to use the turbo function on a different button to get through the stage. ... Joypad, you had a good run. You only cost £10, and you lasted alot longer than I thought you would. That said.. this might also explain why the "B" button no longer works on my Megadrive pad. Also, Xbox360 controller... not good for 2d platformers D: Couple of notes: As usual, the mini-boss names are totally made up. I'm sure the Eskimo has an offical name, I just don't have a clue what it is. I know people can get worked up over little things like this (Geekrage for the lose), if you know the offical names, just tell me. Thanks. I know the main boss names are offical, as they're taken from the Boss Rush mode. :P Indivual Boss Notes: Freon Sub-Boss: Ristar, you idiot, don't make snowmen in the middle of a boss battle! Freon Boss: You cannot avoid the ice breath attack. You.. just.. can't. Really. You can't. I can't manage it, and I haven't seen anyone else manage it either. In fact, I recall seeing a TAS, that couldn't manage it. So no, you can't avoid it. Seriously. And yes, I do realise I was like, one milsecond away from being eaten. Automaton Sub-Boss: I hate this thing. This is seriously one of the hardest bosses in the game. Automaton Boss: Piss easy ...

Ristar ~ First Boss ALTERNATE (No Damage)

This is the alternate way of defeating Riho in this excellent game, Ristar. When you get trapped in the mini-tornados, alternatively press jump/attack to break yourself out. If you time it just right, you can catch Riho before he runs back to his host.

Ristar - Boss Run - Part 3 - Final Boss

The final boss to Ristar! Lets take down Kaiser Greedy! 7 minutes! 5 of that, is just the credits and ending, XD Still... I love this game's ending too much to cut it out. Greedy is one hell of a hard boss, and fittingly, the hardest boss in the game, by far. Definitely a much harder villain than either Robotnik or Bowser ever were. Granted, playing on an Xbox controller upped the difficulty considerably, XD Couple of notes against this boss: First Form: * Defeating the orbs at the start is simply a matter of moving as they fire at you and attacking them. * There's a glitch in the game where these said orbs don't die until they move. This happened whilst I was playing. * He's far harder to hit than he looks. Don't concentrate on trying to hit him every time he appears, that's a sure-fire way to get yourself killed. You need as much health as possible for the second form. * Ignoring the orbs he summons is suicide. They do not go away. Make sure you kill them! * Hitting him whilst he has orbs surrounding him is suicide. Not only does he get a fresh batch of orbs, but then he starts firing three at a time, AND he starts moving again! So, yes. Don't do it. * You can hit the black orbs he fires to get additional health. This helps if you can pull it off, but you're likely to get hit in the process. He sometimes drops a blue star which restores your health fully! Second Form: Ok, now the boss goes crazy! * The black hole is an instant kill if it pulls you in. You must be ...

Ristar: Boss Rush Run [Part 1]

I will now do a Boss Rush run of one of the best platformers ever, Ristar. It was made for the Genesis and Game Gear (I still have the Game Gear version!), but the better and most remembered of the two is the Genesis verison. At first glance, it might seem like a simple kiddie game, but if you think that and just throw it aside, you're both a retard, and losing out on one of the best genesis games ever. Plus, the later levels are quite challenging. And now, I'll do a Boss Run of this game. I'm not the best player ever in it, but I do manage to clear it without losing a life. I hope you enjoy this boss run of this great game.

Ristar: Game Gear Version

The first of a series of Game Gear videos I'll be doing. Ristar was a Sega Genesis game made by Sonic Team(Same people behind Sonic the Hedgehog) that didn't get that much attention due to poor advertising. I t was actually a pretty awesome game, and arguably one of the best Sega Genesis games. What a lot of people didn't know however, is that there was a Game Gear Version of Ristar. Most Genesis games usually had a habit of appearing on the Game Gear in a downsized(often less fun) form. However, The Game Gear Version is actually pretty well done, and is just as fun as the Genesis version. There are even levels exclusive to the GG Version! Anyway, this is a video of the very first stage in the Game Gear Version.

One of the finest titles for the Megadrive that most probably never played. Ristar offers the player control over an unique character with quite unique abilities, as seen on the video. A funny thing where the idle animations of ristar himself, wich varied depending on situation. The ice level was amazingly beautifull. Out now on the PS2 and PSP in Sega Collection and on Wii Virtual Console. Definetly worth your 800 Wii points, especialy if you have never played it before.
