While watching the video of the lunar eclipse I posted the other day I was looking at the curvature of the earth's shadow on the moon. It made me think about how large the earth might look if an exact copy of it was up there instead of the moon. Soon curiosity got the better of me, and I was animating! So the basic idea is, each planet you see is the size it would appear in the sky if it shared an orbit with the moon, 380000 kms from earth. I created this video in After Effects, and because of certain technical considerations had to keep the field of view at 62 degrees. That means the foreground element is not precisely to scale. I realized this after the fact and may update the video at some point in the future. All planets are to correct scale with one another in any case. Please watch full screen in HD if possible. Oh! The world's largest Mig 25 RC Scale model airplane - the test flight
This is the maiden flight of what is probably the largest jet-powered scale model of a Mig 25. At 4.2 meters long and weighing in at 42Kg, this is a huge model, skillfully test-flown by 18-year-old Clinton on the first day of the 2011 ANZAC jet rally in Tokoroa New Zealand. Unfortunately, the second flight did not go as well -- video of that is coming. Check my channel for more great RC model and jet videos.

20 ft.Giant Scale Caudron Racer 80 % scale!
This is a HUGE 20 ft. wingspan RC aircraft called an Aerions Caudron Air Racer from the 40's. Has an electric start JPX320 reduction drive motor-turning a 42x12 prop-weighs 264 lbs. And to date, he has NOT taken his son up for a ride-at least not to my knowledge! Quite a 2 year project-on board camera.

This is the beginning framework of the Enterprise - D in Minecraft ----- I didn't think this would go viral so quickly! It's not even done and on top of that, the Minecraft servers are down so I can't put it up... Some quick answers to some questions. Thanks for all the warm kudos. I'll take some time to tell you guys about how I made the ship and what my plans are for it. I've always wanted to make a 1:1 scale model of the Enterprise-D. Even when I was a kid, I thought how cool it would be to build the ship and live in it. One project I embarked on about a year ago was to build a 1:1 scale model of the enterprise in Sketchup. I got pretty far too. Sadly, my hard drive blew and I lost six months of work. The only thing I had was my original framework and It was just too painful to start over. One of the things that was not lost was the deck plans and a nice computer-friendly vector format, converted from the Whitefire plans (Not the Okuda ones). The plans are pretty rough, but workable. One day I need to go through and clean them up. The Minecraft world uses 1m^3 blocks, ans so, I simply converted my already scaled plans into a format that minecraft could take and imported each deck in batch, leaving 4 spaces in between for walls The original Enterprise is 642.5 Meters x 467.0 Meters x 137.5 Meters. This is about 3m per deck. Sadly, with the 1m deck you have to walk on, that only leaves 2m left over for hallway space. As your character is only 1.7m tall, you will be <b>...</b>

Scale Running Model Harley Panhead Engine by Ron Colonna
V-Twin Panhead Ignition: Spark Bore: 1 5/16 in. Stroke: 1 1/2 in. Two Cylinder Four Cycle No Castings Used This engine was scratch built to a scale of 2/5ths or 40% of full size. The bottom end was taken from a drawing of a Knuckelhead engine that I puchased on e-bay. The top end was patterned after photos taken from e-bay of Harley parts for sale. I also bought a Harley repair manual that helped with the oil system. The crankcase was split into three sections instead of the usual two for ease of machining. The ignition is solid state and I use a GM coil which fires the two plugs simultaneously. Timing is advanced and retarded with the timer body. Two rotating magnets fire a Hall effect device at the proper times as per full sized points. The engine is large enough to produce that lovely V-twin sound.
